Changes to Google Place Page

Late last year we posted Tips to Improve Your Google Place Page Results that gave some ideas to maximize the impact of your Google Place Page. Last week Google announced some important changes that will impact any small business owner with a Place Page. Google Cans Third Party Reviews From Places. Now What? is a great article detailing the changes and some recommendations on how to take advantage of them.

The first change the article mentions is that Google has removed all third-party reviews from Place Pages such as Yelp or TripAdvisor. The second change is the addition of a big red button Write a Review call-to-action button on your business page. The article then recommends three things you should do based on these changes.

First, start actively seeking reviews on Google otherwise your Google Place Page will look pretty empty without any third-party reviews.

Second, continue soliciting reviews on third-party sites since it still helps customers find you and in additions some day Google may change their policy and display third-party reviews on your Place Page.

Third, since the new button will encourage customers to leave reviews it is very important to make sure someone is monitoring and responding to the reviews left by customers on your page. It doesn’t matter whether the review is positive, negative, or neutral – even a negative response can be turned into something positive if addressed in the correct manner and you certainly want to thank customers for their positive reviews.
